November 2015 Meeting Recap

In case you missed it: November 1, 2015

The general meeting of the CFWS was called to order at 1:30. After guest and new members were introduced we discussed the Christmas Party. Most prior members were familiar with this event but the president went over the basics: This event is a covered-dish, we have a member show (bring ONE painting to display). Each member in good standing is asked to vote for his/her favorite three paintings, there is a mini-painting display (then exchange), and a very nice raffle. (Every member receives one free raffle ticket.) After a very short meeting, we eat. Then we start the raffle. (Votes are collected and counted.) Mini paintings are put in a box and distributed: “bring one, pick one”. Prizes are awarded for the member show. At the meeting Terri Chin (VP) signed up helpers for the event. She will be MCing this event.

The “Make a Splash” Casselberry Art House Non-Juried Member Show was discussed. This show is designed for emerging artist, but open to all members. The “Make a Splash” committee presented the sign-up sheet that had been started via email and continues to record names for this event at the meeting. The paperwork necessary to comply with the Art House rules was provided to each person who signed in previously and/or at the meeting. The committee began collecting the small, $5 entry fee and provided receipts. It was announced that the show would have a “Best of Show” voted on by popular vote the evening of the reception, January 8 from (6:00-8:00) Prize: TBD Light refreshments will be served.

The president reminded the membership to read the NEWSLETTER, consult the calendar on the last page each month and read the “In case you missed it. . .” If you couldn’t make the meeting. Mike Malloy publishes it on the website after each month’s general membership meeting.

Special Events:

Cindy Sturla, past president and Mennello Event coordinator, presented a chart of the many events at Mennello in conjunction with the Mary Whyte Exhibit in which CFWS members have a footprint. We have been given a wonderful opportunity to show off what CFWS can do. Come see our members in action. Information and schedule.

Thoughts on helping the club: The president read a list of ways to help CFWS. Many suggestions were offered from gifting partial workshop fees to a friend to sponsoring a young adult with a membership to our group.

Terri Chin, VP, gave a report on the very special Plein Air Event on Nov. 21st at MAC A&H. ALL members are encouraged to be part of the connection between CFWS andA & H. There will be demos and other specials. Participation by families and children is especially encouraged. Come one, come all!

Terri then introduce Jim Holehouse, whose special connection was that Jim was the juror for CFWS’s first juried show 10 years ago! It was good to have him back. Jim was impressed with our group and how we have grown. He presented an interesting demo where color and spontaneity reigned. He offered a lot of good hints and suggestions and encourage allowing the “water of watercolor” to work. He brought some lovely large paintings for us to enjoy also.

Next meeting: Holiday Party!!!!
