In case you missed it, 9/17,2017

We had a great September meeting … a week late due to Irma. The turnout was moderate but enthusiastic! We all had our hurricane stories to share and some members were still without power! We welcomed guests and 4 new members! We are glad you joined us and know you will enjoy the many events scheduled for the new season.

A big thank you to the board for the 2017-2018 season! Your good spirit and Teresa Chin, president, gave updates on the Bloomingdale’s art show and announced that two paintings sold! Congratulations to Chauncey and Susan.

She also announced that the McRae Art Studios has been secured for the Suzanna Winton, NWS watercolor workshop, March 12, 13, 14, 2018. Pam Merle, who has taken a workshop with Suzanna, explained how she will teach painting realistic watercolor portraits with warmth and personality. Suzanna will also be our juror for our members show, at Leu Gardens and do the demo at our March 11 meeting.

Thank you to all the participants who stepped up to share “What I did This Summer” to great applause. Several people mentioned it was like going to a workshop and learning new tips and ideas. We learned about Tonalism, urban sketching, experimenting with alcohol inks, poetry and publishing, mounting a watercolor on wood and so much more!

Tom Jones brought a generous supply of watercolor papers and pads to give away. What fun! Thank you Tom!

Janet presented our updated, brochure and we encouraged members to grab a handful and network our society.

We had a lot of fun with our 50/50 drawing, which may become a permanent feature of our meetings.

Mary Dall announced the October 7 one day workshop, at Kingswood Manor, by Ken Austin. This will be a fun one-day workshop titled “Kick it up a Notch” exploring a variety of techniques in watercolors. Ken will also be doing our demo for the October 1st meeting…I can’t wait.

Marcela Moglia, announced our October 11, Plein-Air will be at the beautiful and historic Bradlee-McIntyre House, on the outside grounds, in historic Longwood from 10 – 4pm.
