September 2016 Meeting Recap

Recap of CFWS General Membership Meeting, 9/11/16:

Mary Dall, president, introduced new members and guests and then introduced and acknowledged the board and made note of the changes to the board roster. She specifically thanked Sharon Stitlely, who stayed on for an additional two months to help out before the new Hospitality chair, Marge Reed, was available. Mary welcomed Judith Kaye, the new Publicity Chair, taking over for Denise Hendrickson over the summer and thanked them for working closely to make the transition an easy one.

At sign up today, each attendee received a gift paint sampler courtesy of Golden’s local paint supplier.

Jackii’s Molsick has offered a generous gift to the club. We will be promoting a donation raffle of a beautiful Frank Franscese watercolor. It is estimated to be valued at approx. $600. Tickets will be offered for $1.00 donation (6 for $5) and a drawing will be held at a designated meeting to be announced in the newsletter.

Mary thanked the By-laws Committee, headed by past president Cindy Sturla and compiled by Ann Hague, for their hard work. The new, and improved, by-laws were distributed electronically to the membership in preparation for the voice vote today. Karen Bowden offered a motion to accept the revised by-laws. It was seconded by Roberta Lerman. The president called for a voice vote. The motion was approved and the by-laws were approved by unanimous consent.  The By-laws can be found on our website.

Kim Minichiello was introduced and she spoke about the Florida Watercolor Society upcoming convention and provided a wealth of information on the event. She is a VP for FWS.

The Bus Trip to the FWS Convention being organized by Nancy Larkin was discussed. Monies were collected. This is a pay ahead event.

The president announced that CFWS has been chosen to anchor the Art House portion of the 2016 Off the Beaten Path Art Tour for Seminole County. Mary read some of the particulars of how we will determine the entries.
1.The board will head the committee, with me collecting the info.
2. A email with be sent in mid October with info as to style, subject. Information will also be in the newsletter and on website.
3. While basically, a first come first served acceptance, this is not a guarantee as this show will represent many styles, lots of subjects and everyone from novice to our most accomplished painters.
The art will represent the body of our work, the variety-diversity of our membership.
4. Mid October we will start collecting information and jpgs from folks interest in being a part of this thrilling show.
5. Acceptance will take several things into account to include if a painter has supported our juried show in the past and supported CFWS in some manner. Approximately 45 paintings will be accepted.
6. All info will be electronically collected. IF you are accepted, you will receive an email with specifications.
7. Casselberry Art House rules and requirements are available at their website and we will publish them on our site also.
8. Paintings can be for sale or NFS.  A painting can be something you have shown before, but not something produced in a workshop. Paintings must be framed properly. Framing specifications are published on our website.

The president encouraged the group to use the Trade & Sell Book— Patsy Marquart has offered frames for sale, Ken Austin’s paint box is still available, several members added items at the meeting.

The president stressed the importance of our Annual Juried Show and some preliminary information was presented. Our show will hang for two months.  We sold paintings at the last one, it was so well received that we’re going back to Winter Garden Art Association’s, SOBO Gallery.

Apron and Tee: Janet Asbury is collecting money so that we can put in the order and have the aprons and tees for a October meeting delivery. This is a great way to advertise our club. Please consider wearing them to plein-air events and take a few brochures to have handy.  You can order online and mail in your check.

Workshop: Lynn Ferris – we are excited but are concerned as to low attendance. Workshops require a lot of work, require early contracts and are expensive for us to put on so we need to plan 2017-2018 carefully. Lynn Ferris will be a presenter at FWS and she is being given flyers to pass out at her demo.

A Workshop Survey was passed out to get an idea of how our group will proceed.

Member Book-going digital. The b x w directory section can easily be printed out by members on their home computers. The president showed samples of how the book had progressed from a plain book, to a colorful book and explained how we will now have an electronic file. It was pointed out that the book will now be:

  1. Easy to change
  2. Placed on your computer desktop
  3. Can and will be updated regularly
  4. Saves the club money

Still beautiful to look, designed by our own Janet Asbury, featuring a photo taken by yours truly of our own Ann Worrell at a plein-air event in full color, other event from last season are in the file too, but the names section (the directory) will be in b x w so anyone can print it themselves should they wish a hard copy. Members will receive the book electronically with a password to open it.

Our website has been updated. Thanks Mike Malloy. Please check it often for updates especially to the calendar section. We now have an expanded usage website where several editors will be able to post.

Facebook – Janet has been monitoring our page, please like us and share!

The president pointed out several Call to Artists that our members might find of interest and reminded our group that our Newsletter guru, Janet Asbury posts this information regularly in the newsletter:

  1. One call to artists is at the City Arts Gallery downtown. They are offering some free gallery space. The president has the POC for anyone interested. Info will be in the newsletter.
  2. Another is at Polasek.

Please read the newsletter and watch for CFWS blast!

The business meeting was followed by a wonderful “Show and Tell” where our members displayed and shared info on their paintings. What talent we have!!
