November 2016 Meeting Recap

At 1:30, after welcoming our new members and guests, President Mary Dall opened the meeting with a welcome to our new hospitality chairperson, Marge Reed, and a thank you to Sharon Stitely who stayed on a bit longer until Marge was back in town.

Mary acknowledged the sudden passing of a long-term member and fine watercolorist, Jean Stirling. Her memorial service was November 4th and was attended by several CFWS members.

March 18 plein air set up by Judi Kaye (publicity) will be near SOBO in conjunction with our juried show. Judy also received thanks for securing extra attention in the Orlando Arts magazine for our group.

Mary gave a shout out to Mike Malloy, our web master, who has made entering the juried show an easy process on-line. Several members attested to the ease of submission on line. Mary reminded the members to check out our website and noted that the URL is published at the bottom of the electronic newsletter Janet sends.

We have already had several phone or email changes to our directory so going electronically with it was a good idea.

It was noted that the sign-up for Hidden Gem: CFWS, Casselberry Art House Show that runs from Dec. 2-30 would now close. We have complete details in the newsletter and on our website. Our treasurer collected the $5.00 entry fee at the meeting (or it still can be paid at install) and forms were available for members still needing the releases and liability pages. Mary pointed out that we will be having this exhibit in conjunction with the Casselberry Recreation Center’s “Music in the Park” and boutique. Members signed up to participate at the boutique table.

Janet Asbury continued the distribution of tees and brought the CFWS aprons to distribute. They are beautiful!

Mary reminded the members to not delay getting the jpgs and monies in for our wonderful Juried Show. We are once again at SOBO, 127 South Boyd, Winter Garden.  Images are due Dec. 4 and now it is easier than ever to submit on line. Jane Brinckerhof once again will be compiling the jpgs. to send to the juror, Jaimie Cordero. Jane said that our juror simply wants a good quality jpg. and we need not worry about exact dimensions. Jackii Molsick talked about submitting to the Juried show.

We continued the raffle of the beautiful Frank Francese painting that Jackii donated. By sharing this painting over several months more members will have a chance to participate.

Mary mentioned that after the first of the year, our society will have a 50/50 raffle at the meetings to help generate funds. A dollar a ticket (6 for $5) with 50% going to the club and 50% going to the winner.

The president send around a form to ascertain interest in a hanging at the Leonard Chapman Studios, 9460  Delegates Dr. Orlando and to see if there was someone willing to coordinate this three month hanging  in February. Their point man, Jason Lee, said they will need  80-90 pieces. We need a coordinator for this event to step forward. The coordinator will simply retain a copy of emails and remind the artists between now and February as to install, take down and any reception notes. There seems to be enough member interest to proceed at this juncture.

We will be forming the new board slate in the coming months. The president encouraged involvement. She suggested members should consider attending a board meeting to get to know the members who are being retained.  Come May we will be in need of a workshop chair, plein air chair and a VP.

Then, Rebecca Wilkenson was introduced and she presented a fascinating Power Point that shows how she executes a water painting. She included info about her studio and fascinating travels. During the presentation there was time for a Q and A. Refreshments followed and Jill Hoppes, from Lake Mary Lifestyles, came to take photos to accompany an article she will be doing about CFWS.
