After much discussion, our board has OK’s the final guidelines for our July/August show at the science center. For this one non juried show only, we have expanded our requiements to give artists more creative freedom.
ORLANDO SCIENCE CENTER CFWS EXHIBIT “The Not So Secret Life of Plants”
July/August 2025
Show Entries:
- There are no restrictions as to when the painting was created.
- All paintings must be the work of the submitting artist
- Entry may NOT be a copy of any other artists’ work
- Entry may be part of a class or workshop, please credit the instructor.
- Entry may be based on photos that are royalty or copyright free. Some artists may find free reference photos online, but in the artist’s write-up that will accompany the painting, the artist should give credit to the author of the image that was used if the picture was not taken by the artist.
- The original work cannot be a print or a Giclee.
i. WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS SHALL BE EXECUTED ON PAPER, (INCLUDING ASIAN PAPERS OR SILK PAPERS), YUPO, OR WATERCOLOR CANVAS BOARDS.
ii. Water-soluble media such as watercolor, water based inks, acrylic in an aqueous manner, gouache, egg tempura, and casein are permitted.
iii. Oils of any kind, use of newsprint, magazine material or computer-generated material is not acceptable.
- Entries must be framed and matted in accordance with CFWS Show Standards.
- Watercolors and acrylics may be varnished in lieu of framing
- Any diptych, triptych or other multiple works must be mounted in a single frame.
- Works must come with a wire for hanging-no saw tooth hangers.
- Plexiglass must be used in lieu of glass.
- White, light cream, or off white mat only As of 2022: a ¼ inch colored bottom mat liner is also allowed.
- Use of an acceptable backing, such as acid free foamcore, is highly recommended, but not mandatory. Cardboard not allowed.
- No changing prices after submitting.
- Information tags (sent to you with your acceptance letter) must be applied to the back and front of painting
- The Orlando science center requires a paragraph or two written by the artist to explain the science and the connection to the theme.
- You can also simply find a “fun fact” about the plant.
- This copy will be displayed next to the painting.
- Submissions will need the following information:
- NAME OF ARTIST
ii. THE SCIENCE YOU ARE ILLUSTRATING
- TITLE OF ARTWORK
iv. MEDIUM
v. PARAGRAPH ON SUBJECT AND SCIENCE (include the source of the reference photograph if not taken by the artist)
vi. PRICE: The Center will need the artist to state a price for insurance purposes and sales. If you don’t want to sell your painting, put the NFS on your artwork. (but let the committee know what the insurance price is.)
